Nikki S. Lee is a really interesting example of this. She's a new york based artist who did a series of photos where she would literally assimilate into a subculture. She changes the way she dresses and modifies her appearance to impersonate a cul...

My family is a mix of Italian, French Canadian, and Irish but I can't think of any dishes my family serves that really relate to any of these cultures. The Guyette side of my family is ridiculously huge and when we get together, each family brings...

Does anyone have any tips for someone who is just starting to make quilts? Or a good book or website for directions? It's something I'm interested in learning to do, but it seems a little complicated.

Some of those quilts much have been beautiful, are they similar to the amish quilts?

Cultural Identity

b. I'm almost ashamed to admit that I've been embarrassed by a few of my cultural backgrounds before, I guess it has to do with cultural identity. I have a great number of different backgrounds, which are what I understand to be mostly European with a tiny sliver of ancestry from more exotic places. And I choose to focus on the cultures of more exotic places, totally ignoring what I'm sure is a proud herit… Continue

My Heritage

I'm mostly Irish and a little English. My mom doesn't have any Irish recipes that really stick out to me that she would use when I was little, but we did have traditions that were very connected to an Irish-Catholic tradition. My parents were raised more on the religious side, and my grandparents, (my mother's parents, who are off the boat from Ireland), encouraged my mother to raise us very religiously. My sisters, brother and I attended Sunday school and were all confirmed. We kept close tradi… Continue

My Cultural identity

I am a German/Hungarian/Irish/English fifth generation American Mutt. And I LOVE it.
I love being a blend of multiple cultures. I feel that our American culture is the combination of all others and we should be proud of this by respecting our diverse heritage. I am a history buff, (focus on the art part) and I think understanding where you come from is very important for everyone in this world. Which makes being a mutt really something wonderful, because it opens you up to learning about everyth… Continue
